Competencies Assessed
in Human Physiology
Effective Communication
is evaluated by
requiring 6 bibliographic searches (Web, Med-line) and email
transmission of a summary.
participating in our laboratory.
Basic Clinical Skills
are introduced by
teaching students to take vital signs and blood pressure
measurements.
enabling students to become proficient in phlebotomy and
setting an iv line.
determining the students' own clinical lab results of blood
and urine and interpreting the results.
performing basic neurological testing skills, and
ophthalmologic and otoscopic exams, etc.
Life-long Learning

requiring web-based searches to stimulate students to
realize the need for
life-long learning.
using weekly discussion questions that emphasize important
questions in biomedical science that
are as yet unanswered.

and Personal Growth are emphasized
by
helping students to recognize the difficulties in mastering
certain skills (e.g. phlebotomy), to be aware
of their individual deficiency in these skills, and to deal

stimulate the students' awareness.
repeated self-measurement of sleepiness and sleep debt, with
