Lyme
disease treatment summary:
-
The foregoing treatment
schedule is for adults. Pediatric treatment must be calculated
on size and weight of the child. Doxycycline and other tetracyclines
should not be used in children less than 8 years old, or with
pregnant or lactating women.
-
Early Lyme disease responds
well to oral antibiotics in most people.
-
As incidence of advanced active
disease is low, and antibiotic treatment of early disease is effective,
prophylactic use of antibiotics is not recommended.
-
Temporary pacemaker may
be necessary in more serious cases of AV block.
-
In later stages of the
disease, response to antibiotics may be delayed for several weeks.
