Think about these questions.
  • What physical finding is consistent with Mr. Jones recent blood loss?
  • The history of melanotic stools is indicative of bleeding where in the GI tract? 
  • Is there anything other than hemorrhage that might account for melenotic stools?
  • The chemistry analysis shows a significant elevation of BUN, is this indicative of incipient renal failure?  If not,  what's a better explanation?
  • Mr. Jones' hemoglobin and hematocrit are dangerously low. Why then is the MCV, MCH and MCHC not proportionately effected?
Try to answer these questions before charging off, they're going to come back before this exercise is over.
