Visual Inspection
- Symmetry?
Most women don't have perfectly symmetrical breasts, but they should be close
to the same size.
-
For women with pendulous breasts, it is helpful to have them lean forward
to allow the breasts to hang free for the visual inspection.
- Skin changes?
- Nipple discharge?
Palpation
- Start by palpating the
nipple and areolar skin.
- Use the pads of your
fingers, not the tips.
- Progress in concentric
circles so as to examine the entire breast. Remember the axillary tail
goes up like a tear drop towards the axilla.
- Palpate the axilla.
