General features of
microcytic anemias
- Small, hypochromic (poorly
colored) RBCs
- Wide RDW, small MCV,
low MCH and MCHC.
- Iron deficiency (poor
diet or bad absorption).
- Chronic blood loss.
- Inherited defects of
RBC structure (hereditary spherocytosis).
How about an
anemia with large RBCs.
