This
is all adding up to a disaster for Mr. Weiser. He has at least three
major alcohol related diseases, and very likely the beginning of hepatic
encephalopathy.
-
Alcoholic cirrhosis combined
with the manifestations of portal hypertension and esophageal varices.
-
Acute gastritis.
-
Acute alcoholic hepatitis.
So what's with hepatic encephalopathy,
and how do we know if Mr. Weiser's developing it?
-
A complex neuropsychiatric
condition associated with advanced liver diseases, especially in
people with marked portosystemic shunting.
-
Thought to be related to inadequate
removal of nitrogenous wastes by the liver.
-
Ammonia is the easy parameter
to follow, although it is not the only agent responsible for the
condition.
Wow, I can't get enough of this,
isn't there more?
