Results of the needle aspiration.
  • Following cleansing of the skin overlying the mass, a 21 gauge needle was passed into the lesion and small amount of fluid aspirated into a syringe.
  • After the procedure, the mass was still present.
  • Smears were made and stained.
The pathologist calls to tell us what she sees in the smears.
  • A mixture of cells consistent with lymph node origin.
    • Reactive and "atypical" appearing lymphocytes
    • Plasma cells
    • A few eosinophils and
    • A suspicious cell with a bilobed nucleus.
