Microcytic anemias
 

General features of microcytic anemias

  • Small, hypochromic (poorly colored) RBCs
  • Wide RDW, small MCV, low MCH and MCHC.
  • Iron deficiency (poor diet or bad absorption).
  • Chronic blood loss. 
  • Inherited defects of RBC structure (hereditary spherocytosis).
