Cancer of the prostate.
  • Most common malignancy in men, followed closely by lung.
  • It is the second leading cause of cancer death in men.
  • Rare before the age of 50.
  • Overall, 69 per 100,000 is the incidence in caucasians.
  • Rare in Asians.
  • Etiology is unclear, although dietary fats may be important. People think fats may play a role in increasing androgens.
  • Androgens very likely play a role
  • Altering testosterone levels can dramatically change growth rate of a prostatic carcinoma.
  • Prostate cancer is an adenocarcinoma,  typically gland-within-gland pattern.
