Slide 156: Skin with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans

Note the large and locally invasive, fibroblastic lesion just beneath the skin surface. (Note here that the tissue has been scanned with the epithelial surface down, so the image is upside down.) Go to medium to see the storiform pattern (Interwoven) of the tumor.

See this slide with the virtual microscope.

This is a anaplastic lesion, as is the case with many sarcomas. Yes it would very difficult to tell the origin of this lesion if it weren't on the list of diagnosis. Note how some cells are spindle shaped and have elongated nuclei, this is one of the diagnostic tips that this a malignancy of fibroblast origin.
