Clearly we need more history and the physical exam, but before moving on let's consider the possibilities.
  • Fibroadenoma
  • Fibrocystic disease
  • Fat necrosis
  • Simple cyst
  • Cancer
What will help?
  • Is the lesion solitary or are there multiple masses?
  • Is the mass movable or is it fixed to surrounding tissue?
  • Is there a history of injury to the site?
  • Is the lesion painful?  Evidence of inflammation?
  • Is there dimpling or retraction of the skin over the mass?
  • Is the skin in the area of the mass roughened?
  • Axillary masses?
  • Family history?
