Things aren't looking so good.

Remember the Gram stain on the sputum? The culture and sensitivity just came back. 

  • Methacillin resistant Staph aureus.
  • His temperature is now 102.3 and he's coughing up rusty looking sputum.
  • His blood pressure is 118/68 mmHg
  • His blood sugar is 312 mg/dL.
  • He's confused.
  • His WBC is now 23,000 with 96% Polys.
  • Obviously the methacillin is not the drug of choice.
  • We'll switch him to Vancomycin.
  • He may be septic, blood cultures are in order.
