Abnormal RBC maturation and ringed sideroblasts in the marrow of MDS patient.

  • Note here the abnormal RBC maturation.
    • Note the "budded" and "cleaved" nuclei of the RBC precursors.
  • The insert shows ringed sideroblasts.
    • Erythroblasts with iron-laden mitochondria surrounding the nucleus.
    • Prussian blue is the stain used to highlight the iron.
