Fortunately, the ward clerk in the emergency room was on the ball.

  • As a matter of course, the clerk had requested any chart from previous admissions be sent from medical records.
  • As it turns out, Julie had been admitted at the age of eleven months, following an injury.
  • At that time, she and her mother had been visiting at a friend's house, about the time Julie was just learning to walk.
  • Mrs. Mackenzie's friend did not have children, so the house wasn't "baby proofed."
  • Julie had a serious fall down the basement stairs, fracturing two ribs.
  • Julie's aunt was unaware of this history.

What now? Back to the problem at hand.                                                               Back
