Basal Cell Carcinoma

  • A lesion of the dermis.
  • Basaloid cells in groups and clusters.
  • Very characteristic palisading or "picket fence" arrangement at margins of the groups of malignant cells.
  • These cells generally lack the degree of nuclear atypia seen in a malignant melanoma.
  • Basal cell carcinomas locally invade and spread radially, but don't metastasize via blood or lymph.
