Nevus cells are non-dendritic
melanocytes.

They occur in aggregates, or
nests, along the epidermal-dermal junction or within the dermis.

We look for maturation from
surface to base.

That is, the deeper the clusters
are in the dermis, the more compact and mature the individual cells should
be.

Melanomas, on the other hand,
show immature cells through their full thickness. There is no maturation
from the surface to base in a melanoma
