  • Small, rounded-up, (non-dendritic) melanocytes.
  • Grouped in clusters or "nests."
  • With the compound nevus, i.e. those that have some dermal component, the individual nevus cells show maturation from surface to base.
  • That is to say the cells become more compact, the deeper in the dermis we look.
