Medical Sciences Chapter of the Internal
Medicine Student Interest Group
The Medical Sciences chapter
of the Internal Medicine Student Interest
Group recently sponsored a health fair at
the Monroe County Public Library. The
students completely organized this event
themselves, raising money and recruiting
sponsors to provide an afternoon of
information, blood pressure checks and
laboratory screening. It was a great success
with both first and second year students
participating. Below are some pictures from
the health fair. We anticipate this being a
yearly even, so if you are interested,
please plan on helping with next year's
health fair.

Heather Andrews
(second-year student, class of 2010) takes
discusses the results of a serum cholesterol
value with a visitor to the health fair.
This station included
blood sugar and cholesterol screening. The
tests were done at no charge to the visitor,
and results were available within minutes.
People with abnormal
values were instructor to contact their
doctor.
Emily
Merryman (second-year student, class of
2010) discusses food options and healthy
snacks with a brother and sister. Other
nutrition related stations demonstrated
serving sizes, fat and sugar content of
various foods, and visitors could even have
their body mass index (BMI) calculated.
