The urinary bladder has a four-layered wall similar to the ureters
but with several differences. Use this virtual microscopic slide of
URINARY BLADDER to
identify the following:
- Mucosa, including a surface of transitional epithelium and
the immediately underlying loose connective tissue.
- Submucosa of dense irregular connective tissue.
- Muscularis, containing three thick layers of smooth muscle,
known collectively as the detrusor muscle.
- Either serosa (where the bladder has a peritoneal covering
over areolar connective tissue) or adventitia, the areolar
connective tissue joining the bladder to adjacent structures.
