Dividing Root Tip Cells

On this slide, there are numerous dividing ROOT TIP cells. Remember that mitosis is a continuous process with four named stages.
  • Prophase: look for the chromosomes appearing as a puffy ball of threads within the nucleus.
  • Metaphase: you should be able to see the chromosomes lined up in the center of the cell.
  • Anaphase: the chromosomes have been pulled apart; they appear as strands moving toward the opposite poles of the cell.
  • Telophase: the chromosomes are clumped together at the poles. The cell itself appears to be pulled apart and two new cells are starting to form.
