Thick Skin (found on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet)

The epidermis of thick skin is divided into five specific layers based on staining changes as cells move toward the surface.
  • stratum corneum (1), stratum lucidum (2), stratum granulosum (3), stratum spinosum (4) and the stratum basale (5).

The dermis is made up of dense irregular connective tissue and may also be divided into two specific layers.

  • Papillary layer (1) and the reticular layer (2).
