What's the time frame? "Not long," is the short answer. 
  • The overall five year survival is 9%
  • Only 20 -30% of people with tumors present with lesion sufficiently localized to attempt resection.
  • Squamous cell and adenocarcinomas tend to stay put slightly longer and as result have a marginally longer survival time. 
  • Five year survival for squamous cell and adenocarcinomas equals 10%
  • Five year survival for undifferentiated equals 3%
  • Untreated, the survival time from diagnosis is 6 - 17 weeks.
