AIDS related lymphomas
are divided into groups on the basis of location. These lymphomas develop
in approximately 6% of AIDS patients.
-
Systemic lymphomas = 80% of
total. (Lymph nodes and extra nodal viscera)
-
Central nervous system = 20%
of total. (incidence is 1000 times that of general population)
-
Body cavity lymphomas (rare).
(pleual, peritoneal and pericardial effusions as the primary source of
the malignant lymphocytes)
Cervical carcinoma in women.
-
The increased incidence is probably
a consequence of the much higher prevalence of human papilomavirus infection
in HIV infected women.
