Spinal cord involvement
-
Spinal cord pathology is found
in 20-30% of AIDS patients.

Microscopically the findings
resemble those of subacute combined degeneration (vitamin B-12 deficiency).
AIDS associated myopathy
and peripheral neuropathy.

Inflammatory myopathy.

Muscle fiber necrosis and phagocytosis
with an infiltrate composed of HIV infected macrophages.

In some people treated with
AZT, there is a reversible myopathy leading to myoglobinuria.

Clinical symptoms include proximal
muscle weakness and muscle pain.

Measurable increased blood levels
of CPK.
