Slide 50: Heart with endocardial fibroelastosis
|
Even without the aid
of a stain highlighting collagen or elastic tissue, you can see how markedly
thickened the endocardium has become. This process will obviously lead
to a significant restriction in the dilation and filling of the ventricles.
See this slide with the
virtual microscope. |

This is an H&E
of an uncommon disease; endocardial fibroelastosis. See how markedly thickened
the endocardium is and note the extension of fibrous tissue into the superficial
myocardium. Slide #119 shows this with a stain that highlights the collagen.
This alteration greatly restricts the ability of the heart to fill and pump
effectively. |
