• Acute exacerbation:
• IV steroids; 1000 mg methylpednisilone X 3 days
• Followed by; tapering doses of prednisone
• Relapsing-remitting (Chronic relapsing):
• Chemo-therapuetic type immune suppressing agents, typically given subcutaneously or IM. Weekly dosing.
• Beta interferons : there are currently three abvailable, all  reduce the frequency of  excerbations and improve MRI-based measrues
  
• Chronic progressive:
• Newer, long-acting immune suppressing agents, given IV every three months.
