Therapies for MS depend on the "clinical" type:
- Acute exacerbation:
- IV steroids; 1000 mg methylpednisilone
X 3 days
- Followed by; tapering
doses of prednisone
- Relapsing-remitting
(Chronic relapsing):
- Chemo-therapuetic type
immune suppressing agents, typically given subcutaneously or IM. Weekly
dosing.
- Beta interferons
: there are currently three
abvailable, all reduce the frequency of excerbations and improve
MRI-based measrues
- Chronic progressive:
- Newer, long-acting immune
suppressing agents, given IV every three months.
