  • Acute multiple sclerosis (Marburg syndrome):
    • Younger individuals.
    • Rapid and fulminant course (months).
    • Large and  numerous plaques.
    • Extensive myelin destruction with axonal loss.
  • Devic disease:
    • Bilateral optic involvement.
    • Extensive spinal cord involvement.
    • 20% have rapid course.
    • Asians more often.
    • Plaques are more destructive
    • Gray matter involvement.
