More on the plaques of MS.

Inactive plaques:

  • Little or no myelin
  • Reduced numbers of oligodendrocytes.
  • Reactive gliosis
Shadow plaques:
  • Incomplete or partial myelin loss.
  • Possibly represent areas of remyelinization.
  • Edges between affected and uninvolved white matter not very distinct.
  • Abnormally thinned myelin sheaths are seen.
