Paraneoplastic endocrinopathies continued.

Inappropriate ADH

  • Seen with small cell carcinoma of the lung and a rarely with intracranial tumors.
  • Water retention and hyponatremia due to excess ADH.
Hypoglycemia
  • Production of insulin and insulin-like substances.
  • Fibrosarcoma and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Carcinoid syndrome
  • Diarrhea, palpitations, wheezing, facial flushing,  valvular heart disease.
  • Excess serotonin, bradykinin and possibly histamine.
  • GI carcinoids, pancreatic cancers and bronchial adenomas.
