Non-squamous cancer of the cervix.

Up to 25% of cancers of the cervix are non-squamous.

  • Adenocarcinoma
    • Most likely of endocervical gland origin.
    • Behave like squamous cell lesions.
    • Associated with HPV type 18 infection.
  • Mixed adenosquamous carcinoma.
    • Probably from the reserve cells of the endocervix.
  • Clear cell adenocarcinoma.
    • Seen in woman of mothers using DES.
    • Pattern and behavior similar to vaginal lesions.
  • Small cell or undifferentiated.
    • Neuroendocrine, similar to small cell of lung
    • Early lymphatic spread.
    • Associated with HPV type 18
