Hodgkin
Disease (HD)
-
Primarily a disease of young
adults, but does have a bimodal distribution.
-
A second peak in incidence
is seen around 60.
-
Differs from non-Hodgkin
lymphomas in several ways.
-
HD arises in a single lymph
node or chain of nodes.
-
Spreads to contiguous nodes.
-
Characteristic cell is the Reed-Sternberg
(RS) cell.
-
The RS cell induces the
accumulation of reactive cells.
-
lymphocytes
-
histocytes
-
granulocytes and eosinophils
-
The RS cell comprises
only a small fraction of the tumor bulk (1-5%).
-
The cell of origin of
the RS cell remains unclear.
Wow, this is really helpful,
keep
