Bad nuclei
Papanicolaou stain H & E stain 
  • These are some really angry and disturbed cells. (Move cursor)
  • Huge nuclei with hyperchromasia and irregular nuclear borders. (Note that the nuclei on the left are twice size of the PMNs.)
  • Large, owl-eyed nucleoli (very characteristic of melanomas).
  • Varying degrees of melanin production. (Remember, there are amelanotic melanomas.)
