AIDS related lymphomas are divided into groups on the basis of location. These lymphomas develop in approximately 6% of AIDS patients.
  • Systemic lymphomas = 80% of total. (Lymph nodes and extra nodal viscera)
  • Central nervous system = 20% of total. (incidence is 1000 times that of general population)
  • Body cavity lymphomas (rare). (pleual, peritoneal and pericardial effusions as the primary source of the malignant lymphocytes)
Cervical carcinoma in women.
  • The increased incidence is probably a consequence of the much higher prevalence of human papilomavirus infection in HIV infected women.
