    Chapter 10: The Urinary System

The urinary system is responsible for water and electrolyte balance, and for removing a variety of metabolic wastes from the body. The kidneys are the main excretory organs and their function is critical to maintaining the internal environment. Waste products are taken from the kidneys as urine by the ureters and temporarily stored in the urinary bladder. The urethra leads from the urinary bladder to expel waste products.
