Chapter 5: The Muscular System

Muscle is one of the four basic types of tissue and is specialized for contraction. There are three distinct types of muscle: smooth (or visceral) muscle, cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle.

	Smooth muscle is found in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract throughout its length. We will use a slide of SMALL INTESTINE to demonstrate the features of smooth muscle. Click for slide page.
