Cancer of the prostate

• Has a diffuse pattern of infiltration as opposed to the nodular pattern of hyperplasia.
• Has the usual cytologic features of malignancy, i.e. nuclear hyperchromasia, angulated nuclear margins, prominent nucleoli, etc.
• Is composed of glands lined by malignant epithelium. These glands lack a reserve layer, i.e. are composed of a single layer of epithelium, the malignant cells.
• Demonstrates a gland-within-gland histologic pattern.
• Shows perineurial invasion as an early sign of metastasis.
