Middle, chronic phase

 
 

Illness Phase


Clinical findings
  • Persistent generalized lymphadenopathy.
  • Minor opportunistic infections, such as herpes and thrush.
  • Some may develop thrombocytopenia.
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Sinusitis
  • Weight loss

Middle, chronic phase is characterized by:

  • Period of relative containment, but continued viral replication.
  • HIV replication is predominately in lymphoid tissues
  • This phase may last for several years.
