Altered monocyte and macrophage function
  • Decreased chemotaxis and phagocytosis.
  • Diminished HLA class II expression.
  • Decreased capacity to present processed antigen to T-cells.
  • Increased spontaneous secretion of tumor necrosis factor and certain classes of interferons.
Consequences of altered T-cell function
  • Susceptibility to opportunistic infections
