Blood clotting is a great thing, as long as it's where and when you want
it.
- A thrombus is a pathological clot.
- Venous side thrombi generally mean
- Stasis and factor activation.
- Arterial side thrombi generally mean
- Platelet activation and/or vascular
injury.

Strategies to prevent thrombosis depend on
knowing whether it's arterial or venous.
- Venous, means you're treating the
clotting proteins with heparin and/or Coumadin.
- Arterial, you better be using an
antiplatelet drug, such as aspirin.
- Recurrence, or thrombosis in a young
person, means you better dig deeper.
- Is it too much clotting potential, or
- Too little thrombolysis?
