thanks to an astute physician.
- She was immediately started on:
- A broad spectrum antibiotic by IV.
- IV fluids.
- IV steroids.
- She remains on a daily steroid replacement
dose because her adrenals were completely destroyed.
- Even though she had meningitis, she recovered
with minimal CNS damage.
- Unfortunately, she did develop a seizure
disorder secondary to meningeal scarring.
- These pictures are of an acute bacterial
meningitis. Note the PMNs filling the subarachnoid space.
