    Slide 220: Kidney with papillary adenoma and chronic pyelonephritis
     
     

    Here we see a large papillary adenoma that probably arose from the transitional epithelium lining the pelvis of the kidney. It obviously distorts the normal renal architecture.

    Note also the marked chronic pyelonephritis and arteriolar disease in the kidney adjacent to the adenoma.

    Here we see the junction of the adenoma and the renal tissue. Although looking a little atypical, the cells of the adenoma are basically benign.
