Things to do

Duties and Responsibilities are really no different than here in the US.

  • Teach, learn and provide care.
  • As a resident, your day will likely consists of:
    • Morning rounds, starting about 8:30 or 9:00
    • New admission workups are done in the afternoon.
    • Teams alternate admission days; expect new patients every other day.
    • Teams consist of: you (acting as 'consultant'), an intern, 2 clinical officers and 4-5 medical students.
  • The average patient census is about 10-20 patients.
 
  • Old buildings and simple wards.
  • Medical and pediatric wards are all in one area.
  • Often there will be more than one patient to a bed.
  • Laboratory test may be inconsistently available.
  • Supplies are limited.
