Our patient had only
12% of the expected amount of factor IX
- By knowing the proteins measured in the aPTT
and PT, we were able substantially narrow down the possibilities, and target
the most likely culprits for quantification. Pretty slick
- This is classic Hemophilia B
- Factor IX deficiency is generally
not as
severe as Hemophilia A
- Hemophilia A = VIII deficiency.
- Boys with factor IX levels of 12-15% tend
be mild bleeders.
- Those with little or no factor IX may be
just as severe as Hemophilia A.
- Here's an example of a hemorrhage not
uncommon in boys with a severe bleeding tendency, who are learning to ride a
bicycle.
- Both VIII and IX deficiencies are
sex-linked recessive traits.
- Factor IX is vitamin K dependent.
The
