Ms. JS has
hepatitis.
- She has a febrile illness and is obviously
jaundiced.
- Her CBC is consistent with a viral
illness.
- Increased lymphocyte percentage and
presence of reactive lymphs.
- Her chemistry profile shows elevation of
agents relative to the liver:
- AST is 603 U/L (nl = 5-55)
- Bilirubin
is markedly up at 6.7mg/dL (nl < 1.5)
- Both her GGTP and alkaline phosphatase are
up, but not strikingly so.

- If we had a biopsy of her liver, it would
certainly show evidence of liver cell necrosis.
