Examples

Skin conditions observed in the tropics are similar to those everyone else suffers with, but with a few added wrinkles. There are three basic categories.

  1. Common diseases seen throughout the world.
    • Psoriasis, warts, urticaria etc
  2. Common diseases, that may differ or occur more frequently because of:
    • Heat, humidity, malnutrition, lack of appropriate treatments etc.
    • Examples include:
      • Acne, lupus vulgaris ....
  3. Skin conditions occurring as a consequence of living in the tropics
    • Leishmaniasis, myiasis .......

What are the most common conditions?

  • Scabies,
  • Insect bites
  • Pyoderma
  • Dermatitis
