  • Stem cell neoplasm, but it's the megakaryocytic line most affected.
  • Fairly uncommon.
  • Bone marrow findings.
    • Megakaryocytic proliferation 
    • Presence of dysplastic megakaryocytes.
    • Increased bone marrow reticulin (easy to stain for).
  • Peripheral blood findings
    • Generally counts exceed 600,000
    • Giant platelets
  • Thrombosis and hemorrhage are main clinical symptoms.
  • Relatively indolent course with survivals of 12-15 years.
