Myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia.
We're going focus on CML, but
here are some interesting things common to all four MPDs:
-
The neoplastic stem cells
are able to circulate in the blood.
-
This means they can colonize
other potential hematopoietic organs.
-
Spleen most frequently,
causing marked splenomegaly.
-
Less often liver and lymph nodes.
-
Often terminate as marrow
fibrosis
-
Leads to profound peripheral
cytopenias.
-
Progress in time to an acute
leukemia (blast crisis), CML especially.
-
There is considerable overlap
in clinical presentations.
Chronic
