Mr. Abrahms' chest X-Ray shows bilateral fluffy infiltrates in the lung fields, very suggestive of pnemocystis pneumonia.

Lab values of signficance:

  • His CBC is not abnormal.
  • Total lymphocyte count is fine.
  • CD4 count = 29/mm3 (nml = 1,500-4,000)
  • CD8 count = 220/mm3 (nml = 325-1000)
  • PCR HIV viral load = 38,000/mm3 (nml = 0)

Mr. Abrahms' completed SGA.

The nutritional issues associated with HIV/AIDS are many.

  • Increased need because of chronic infection with HIV virus itself.
  • Associated infections as AIDS evolves.
  • Infections that affect the person's ability to eat and/or absorb nutrients.

Mr. Abrahms has clearly progressed from HIV positivity to overt AIDS.
