Yeah, he's just a social drinker, but then he's a very sociable sort of guy. He's not on Coumadin or any other kind of anticoagulant. His wife doesn't look like the sort to poison her husband. He works at a desk job as an insurance salesman, so industrial exposure isn't likely.
To the right is a CT of his liver. Normal CT scan for comparison? Micronodular cirrhosis? This guy has alcohol induced cirrhosis. He can't make enough of the vitamin K dependent proteins: II, VII, IX & X. Because these proteins are part of the intrinsic and extrinsic paths, he has prolongation of both PT and aPTT. This is an acquired condition.

• We'll treat him by giving him large doses of injectable vitamin K, and
• Trying to get him off the booze.
