  • Mrs. KL is a 28 year-old school teacher.
  • She's feels she bruises easily and
    • Bleeds excessively with dental procedures.
    • She also has a history of excessive menstrual flow (menorrhagia),
    • She is pregnant now with her first child.
    • She claims if she takes just one aspirin, she will bruise for a week.
  • Her family history is significant for bleeding problems.
    • Some of her relatives, both male and female, have a bleeding tendency.
    • She's very concerned because an aunt supposedly died in childbirth from a hemorrhage.
  • This person's a woman, I thought problems like this occurred only in men?
    • Nay, nay. Only factors IX and the enzymatic part of VIII are sex-linked. All others are autosomal.
    • And, only von Willebrand disease is dominant, all others are recessive.
